Dark Chocolate Fondue
Serves 8 adults
This recipe is a composite
of serveral different recipes I've looked at
while hunting for the perfect
chocolate fondue recipe for our family.
It matters what kind of chocolate you use. Don't use baking chocolate! Toblerone is great, but you can
also use good quality plain dark chocolate. Using butter means less whipping cream is required, making the
fondue dark and rich. Yum!
-
1 pound
dark chocolate (Toblerone is great)
-
1 cup
whipping cream
-
4 tablespoons
butter
-
½ cup
liqueur, brandy, etc. of your choice
-
¼ cup
vanilla extract
To dip in the fondue
-
lots
of fresh fruit such as apples, oranges, bannanas, kiwis, pears, cherries
-
some
dried fruit such as apricots, prunes, dates
-
1 pound
of plain cake, such as pound cake or angel food cake
You will also need a double boiler and a chocolate fondue pot.
Directions
- prepare the fresh fruit by peeling it and cutting it into chunks. Cut the cake into one-inch
cubes.
- Heat the cream, butter and alcohol in the double boiler until the butter melts.
- Gradually add the chocolate, allowing it to melt slowly. Stir constantly.
- Add the vanilla extract when all the chocolate is nearly melted, stirring it in
- Transfer the fondue to a chocolate fondue pot and serve.
